TikTok Launches £3.99 Ad-Free Monthly Subscription for UK Users

TikTok is rolling out a new optional subscription service in the UK, offering users the chance to scroll through their "For You" feeds without interruption from ads. Starting Monday, May 11th, 2026, the social media giant will begin notifying users aged 18 and older that they can pay £3.99 per month for a "TikTok Ad-Free" experience.
The move follows similar shifts from other tech giants like Meta and Snapchat, which have introduced paid tiers to offset the loss of revenue from users who opt out of data tracking.
The new £3.99 tier removes ads delivered directly by TikTok. However, there is a catch: users will still see sponsored content and promotional posts from individual creators, which are typically marked with the "#ad" hashtag.
"Advertising on our platform is already helping thousands of British businesses reach new customers, increase sales and create jobs, while our new ad-free option gives people greater control over their experience," said Kris Boger, TikTok’s UK managing director. He added that the change "ensures we continue to deliver real economic impact while giving our community the flexibility to engage with TikTok in the way that suits them."
For those who prefer to keep using the app for free, TikTok will continue to serve personalised ads. While users can still adjust their ad settings within the app, the previous ability to completely opt out of personalised tracking while using the free version is being removed as part of this transition.
Social media expert Matt Navarra suggests this is part of a larger trend where firms are "putting a monthly price on stepping outside of the ad-targeting machine." He warns that we may be heading toward a "two-tiered social internet," where control over privacy and data is increasingly tied to the ability to pay.
UK users will begin seeing pop-up notifications about the subscription over the next few months. While the rollout starts today, TikTok has not yet specified a hard deadline for when users must decide whether to subscribe or stay on the ad-supported version.
This launch marks the first time TikTok has brought an ad-free subscription to an English-speaking market, following smaller-scale tests that began in 2023.
