Two attempted murder arrests after train stabbings

Two attempted murder arrests after train stabbings

After a mass stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday evening, two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A significant number of police officers were called to Huntingdon railway station, where the train from Doncaster to London had made an unscheduled stop, but not being treated as terror-related. Ten people needed hospitalization, and although four people were released, two others were in a life-threatening condition. The arrested men, who police described as a 32-year-old black British national and a 35-year old British national of Caribbean descent, were arrested at separate police stations.

This is a shocking occurrence, and my thoughts are with those who have been wounded and their families,
Supt John Loveless of British Transport Police said outside Huntingdon railway station.
We were alerted of a multiple stabbing on board the 18:25 LNER service from Doncaster to King's Cross at 19:42.
Officers arrived at Huntingdon station immediately alongside paramedics, where armed police from Cambridgeshire Police boarded the train and arrested two people within eight minutes of the first 999 call.
We reported a big incident yesterday and counter terrorism policing were among the first to support our probe. However, there is nothing to indicate that this is a terrorist attack at this moment.
At this time, it would not be appropriate to speculate about the origins of the incident.
The station is still closed, but we hope trains will be passing through the station from this morning. Police officers will be on trains and on trains throughout the day, ensuring that the public is informed and alerted if they have questions.
At Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, victims were being treated. The train's previous stop at Peterborough was one station up the line, and it was the only other scheduled stop before the capital was scheduled to be Stevenage in Hertfordshire. LNER has warned that rail disruption will persist throughout Sunday, and that passengers will be able to defer any train journey until 4 November for free. At Peterborough and St Neots railway stations, replacement bus services for people using Huntingdon were being offered.

Wren Chamberstold the BBC that they were first aware that something was wrong when a man bolted down the carriage with a bloody arm, saying,

they've got a knife, run. On the floor, Wren and their companion discovered a man who had fallen on the ground. After knowing what was going on, Wren said they became
stressed and very worried. Olly Foster, another eyewitness, described pure panic aboard the train and said he noticed people screaming run, run, stab everyone and that,
there's a guy literally stabbing everybody. The assault lasted about ten to fifteen minutes, but he said it had felt like
felt like forever" on his. The stabbing began ten minutes after the train left Peterborough, and wounded people were seen running through the train away from anyone with a knife, according to commuter Sky News. According to one observer, a man wielding a large knife was later seen on the train platform with armed police pointing their weapons at him.

The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is extremely worrying,
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer wrote in a post on X.
My thoughts are with all those affected, and my appreciation goes to the emergency services for their response. Ben Obese-Jecty, a Huntingdon MP, told the BBC that he arrived shortly after 21:00, where he said he was greeted with a
very iMPortant emergency services presence. This was an appalling and deadly attack, he later posted on X.
My thoughts are with all those people who were wounded in this horrific attack.
I am shocked and deeply concerned by this extremely rare occurrence on a train that was suspended in Huntingdon this evening.
My first thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone else affected.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she was deeply sad to learn of the stabbings, but she advised people to
avoid speculation and speculation at this early stage. Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative leader, condemned the
completely horrific assault" and said her thoughts were with all those affected, including emergency first responders.
