New Year's Eve trains disrupted by cable theft
After signalling cables were stolen in South Yorkshire, rail passengers have been warned of delays and cancellations until the end of New Year's Eve. Following the robbery between Doncaster and Sheffield, which was first reported shortly before 05:30 GMT on Wednesday, National Rail said several routes had been affected by the theft. After initially predicting that the disruption was likely to last until mid-morning, National Rail later reported that passengers were likely to face difficulties throughout the day. Those affected by Northern's services, which include local services in South Yorkshire and trains running from Doncaster to Hull and Scarborough, are among those affected.
Both Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street, which include Sheffield, Wakefield, Leeds, and York, has been affected by crossCountry services. Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes, which call at Doncaster, have been hit by the TransPennine Express services.
