‘Bring It On!’: ‘Werewolf by Night’ Star Laura Donnelly Rallies for Marvel’s Rumoured ‘Midnight Sons’ Movie

LOS ANGELES — The supernatural underbelly of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is gaining serious momentum, with Northern Irish actress Laura Donnelly actively throwing her weight behind a highly anticipated crossover film.

Speaking during a press junket for her Apple TV+ series, the 43-year-old Olivier Award winner didn't mince her words when asked if she wanted to reprise her standout comic-book role as the fierce, shotgun-toting monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone.

"Oh, for sure," Donnelly told reporters. "I mean, I love that opening up of that aspect of the MCU, that kind of monster-horror universe that really appeals to me. Bring on Midnight Sons, I say!"

The actress’s enthusiastic battle cry comes directly on the heels of recent comments from Moon Knight lead Oscar Isaac, who heavily teased during international convention panels that active, early-stage boardroom discussions regarding a live-action Midnight Sons project are indeed taking place at Marvel Studios.

Uniting the Outcasts

For comic book purists, the Midnight Sons, traditionally spelled "Midnight Sons" in modern print iterations, represent Marvel's premier occult defense alliance, handling the dark, mythological threats that fall completely outside the jurisdiction of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Donnelly first entered the multi-billion-pound franchise during the critically acclaimed 2022 Disney+ Halloween special Werewolf by Night, directed by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino. Shot in a striking, retro black-and-white aesthetic, the special successfully established a distinct, separate sub-genre within Disney's standard superhero assembly line.

Reflecting on where she hopes the supernatural narrative arches next, the Sugar actress expressed a deep desire to see her character unite with her former on-screen companion, Jack Russell (played by Gael García Bernal):

"I would love to see Elsa and Jack kind of get drawn into that bigger world as a whole, because there are so many other characters to explore there," Donnelly explained. "And I'd love to see them all come together, you know."

The Assembling Pieces of the Supernatural puzzle

While Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige has yet to officially date a Midnight Sons feature film on the upcoming Phase 6 cinematic slate, the studio has quietly and meticulously spent the last four years seeding the exact character components required to construct the team.

The proposed roster reads like a horror aficionado's dream lineup, cutting across multiple high-profile streaming and theatrical releases.

The Modular Roster Matrix of Marvel’s Occult Corner

Superhero / Occult Entity Actor / On-Screen Talent Primary MCU Introduction Asset Mystical Specialty / Weaponry
Elsa Bloodstone Laura Donnelly Werewolf by Night (2022) Monster hunting, mystical Bloodgem artifact
Moon Knight Oscar Isaac Moon Knight (Season 1, 2022) High-dexterity avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu
Blade Mahershala Ali Eternals (Vocal Cameo) / Upcoming Feature Dhampir (Daywalker) vampire swordsmanship
Werewolf by Night Gael García Bernal Werewolf by Night (2022) Lycanthropic physical transformation, raw strength
Man-Thing (Ted) CGI / Practical Werewolf by Night (2022) Inter-dimensional swamp guardian, fear-acid burns

The Cinematic Road Ahead

The alignment of stars like Isaac and Donnelly openly advocating for the ensemble project hints at a growing behind-the-scenes appetite for darker, more experimental storytelling at Disney. Marvel’s mainline theatrical blockbusters have recently leaned heavily into cosmic and multiversal plots via Avengers: Doomsday, leaving a massive, lucrative opening for a grounded, stylistic horror-action epic.

The ultimate linchpin for the supernatural crossover remains the studio's long-delayed Blade standalone feature film starring Mahershala Ali. With production on the vampire epic expected to play a critical foundational role in introducing the structural rules of modern MCU magic, Donnelly’s ready-and-willing attitude ensures that when the studio finally pulls the trigger on assembling its team of monsters, the Bloodstone lineage will be ready for battle.
