Snoop Dogg To Carry Olympic Torch Ahead Of Opening Ceremony

American rapper Snoop Dogg will be one of the final torchbearers for the Olympic flame before the opening ceremony of the Paris Games on Friday.

The 52-year-old artist will carry the torch through the streets of Saint-Denis, a northern Paris suburb home to the Stade de France Olympic Stadium. This final stretch through Saint-Denis precedes the flame's arrival at the Eiffel Tower for the grand opening ceremony.

Mathieu Hanotin, the mayor of Saint-Denis, shared the exciting news on social media, stating, "Saint Denis: last step before the Eiffel Tower. An international cast @SnoopDogg for the last stretch of the Olympic Flame."

Joining Snoop Dogg in Saint-Denis will be French actress Laetitia Casta and French rapper MC Solaar.

The Olympic flame has been on an extensive journey across France since May, with a diverse group of torchbearers including former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Formula One driver Charles Leclerc, and actress Halle Berry. The torch will make its way through the athletes' village in Saint-Denis and neighbouring Saint-Ouen before reaching the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre.

Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Los Angeles, Snoop Dogg's participation is particularly meaningful as his hometown is set to host the 2028 Games. In addition to carrying the torch, he will also serve as an Olympic commentator for NBC, adding his unique flair to the coverage of the Games.

Snoop Dogg's involvement not only bridges the worlds of music and sports but also brings attention to the multicultural essence of Saint-Denis, an area known for its diversity. His participation, along with other notable figures, underscores the inclusive spirit of the Olympics.

The inclusion of high-profile personalities like Snoop Dogg brings a unique cultural blend to the Games, highlighting the universal appeal of the Olympics. As the flame makes its final approach to the Eiffel Tower, the torch relay through Saint-Denis marks a symbolic and celebratory moment leading up to the much-anticipated opening ceremony, promising a vibrant start to the Paris Games.
