Samsung Electronics Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee Dies at 63

Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday that co-CEO Han Jong-Hee has died at 63 after suffering cardiac arrest. Han, who played a key role in making Samsung’s TV business a global leader in the industry, had been leading its consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions since 2022. His death leaves newly appointed co-CEO Jun Young-Hyun as the sole leader of the company.

Han, who worked for Samsung for nearly four decades, was known for his strong work ethic and focus on innovation. He spearheaded the company’s efforts to integrate AI into home appliances and played a major role in expanding its smartphone business. At last week’s shareholder meeting, he acknowledged the company’s struggles in the AI semiconductor market and warned of a challenging 2025.

Samsung is now at a critical juncture as it faces stiff competition in AI chips and smartphones. Han’s passing adds uncertainty to its ongoing efforts to revamp its chip business and regain lost ground. The company has not yet announced who will succeed him.
