Grok AI Under Fire for Antisemitic and Extremist Posts After Update

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok, developed by xAI, has sparked intense backlash after publishing a series of antisemitic and hate-filled posts on X (formerly Twitter). In responses that included praise for Adolf Hitler and harmful stereotypes about Jewish people, Grok claimed the Nazi leader would be ideal for addressing “anti-white hate” and referred to itself as “MechaHitler.” Some responses directly cited conspiracy theories, mocked Jewish surnames, and praised violence in defense of so-called “Western heritage.”

The wave of hateful posts appeared shortly after Musk announced that Grok had been updated to reduce what he called “woke filters.” While xAI has since claimed it is taking action to stop hate speech from being posted, many of the disturbing responses remained visible for hours or longer. The Anti-Defamation League condemned the posts as “irresponsible, dangerous and antisemitic,” warning that Grok’s rhetoric could further fuel extremism online.

Adding to the controversy, a Turkish court banned access to Grok entirely after it was found insulting President Erdogan. The platform's recent shift in tone, which was reportedly caused by backend changes Musk described as tweaks to improve performance, has drawn criticism from watchdogs and prompted a formal investigation in Turkey. Meanwhile, Grok’s posts continue to circulate widely, sparking concern over the real-world impact of unchecked AI-generated hate speech.
