O.J. Simpson, also known as Orenthal James Simpson

Former Football Star OJ Succumbs to Cancer After Lengthy Battle

O.J. Simpson, also known as Orenthal James Simpson, the former American football star and actor, passed away after battling cancer on April 10, 2024, at the age of 76. O.J. was diagnosed with prostate cancer and passed away while receiving chemotherapy. The Simpson Family further mentioned in a tweet on his X account that his children and grandchildren surrounded him, and they asked the public to please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.

Although his legacy was also shadowed by the infamous trial of the century involving the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, according to a statement from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Simpson had a successful NFL career, winning the Heisman Trophy in college and setting a rushing record in 1973 with 2,003 yards. Throughout his career, he earned many awards and accolades, including league MVP and selection to multiple Pro Bowls. Simpson retired with over 11,000 rushing yards and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. His achievements in football are remembered in the Hall of Fame archives in Canton, Ohio.

The reactions to O.J. Simpson's passing were mixed:
Ron Goldman’s Father, Fred Goldman, has come out and made a statement saying that it was not a great loss to the world and it further reminded that his son was gone.
Caitlyn Jenner, who was once married to Kris Jenner following her divorce from Robert Kardashian, Simpson's defense attorney, was among the first to express her thoughts on social media, tweeting "Good Riddance #OJSimpson."
Others, like Magic Johnson, showed more sympathy towards Simpson. Johnson wrote on X, “Cookie and I are praying for O.J. Simpson’s children Arnelle, Aaren, Justin, Jason, and Sydney and his grandchildren following his passing. I know this is a difficult time.”"
