Cillian Murphy to Return for Peaky Blinders Film

Cillian Murphy, fresh from his Oscar win for Best Actor, is set to reprise his iconic role as gangster Tommy Shelby in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film. Confirmed by creator Steven Knight, the film is scheduled to start filming in Birmingham later this year. 

 

Murphy's portrayal of Shelby in the original series gave him a massive fan following, which saw fans flock to cinema’s to witness his role as physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," for which he won not only an Oscar but also a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a Screen Actors Guild award.

The Peaky Blinders film is expected to continue the story of the notorious Shelby family into the Second World War. Knight, discussing the film with Esquire magazine, hinted at its direction, saying, "The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell." He also hinted at the inclusion of a "new generation" introduced in the final series of the BBC show.

 

Fans had speculated about Murphy's return to the role, especially after his recent success. With his commitment to the Peaky Blinders film confirmed, anticipation is high for the next chapter in the saga of Tommy Shelby and his family's criminal exploits.
