World Bog Snorkelling Championships Returns on August 25th, 2024

Are you ready for a unique and exhilarating challenge? The World Bog Snorkelling Championships are back! Competitors swim two consecutive lengths of a water-filled trench in the shortest time possible, all while wearing a facemask, snorkel tube, and flippers. Only the doggy paddle is allowed, with arms below the water. Could you be the fastest bog snorkeller over 120 yards?

A Day to Remember

Held annually in Llanwrtyd Wells, Mid Wales, this quirky event attracts visitors from around the globe. Even if you're not competing, there’s plenty to enjoy:

Event Details

Date: 25th August 2024
Location: Waen Rydd bog, on the outskirts of Llanwrtyd Wells
Time: The event kicks off at 10am

For your convenience, the site is signposted from the town, about a mile walk. There’s also a free shuttle bus running from the town square to the bog and back throughout the day, starting shortly after 9am. Please note, there is a small parking fee at the bog site.

 

Highlights from 2023

The 37th annual World Bog Snorkelling Championships, held on 27th August 2023, saw over 150 participants from around the world. World Champion and record holder Neil Rutter shattered his previous record, setting a new time of 1 minute 12.32 seconds. The Ladies Champion was Camilla Davies with a time of 1 minute 36.78 seconds, and the Overseas Champion was Maria Gotesson from Sweden with a time of 1 minute 38.90 seconds. Participants hailed from countries including Sweden, Serbia, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia, Norway, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and the USA.
