Woman stabbed in neck in 'unprovoked attack' in Birmingham city centre

After being stabbed in the neck in a unprovoked assault in Birmingham city centre, a woman is in limbo. After the attack on Friday night, a man in his twenties was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. It happened on Smallbrook Queensway, just outside the Bullring shopping center and opposite the main entrance to New Street's main entrance shortly before 21:00 GMT. According to West Midlands Police, a woman in her 30s sustained a serious neck injury and is in hospital in a critical state.

A man was arrested close to the scene and remained detained in detention, according to the police.

Officers are now investigating the scene, which is in a very crowded area of the city center near the Bullring. A police tent is still on the pavement, just outside the shopping center and opposite the main entrance to New Street.

We suspect this was an unprovoked attack and are trying to figure out why it happened,
Det Insp James Nix said.
We will have officers in the area today to continue our probe and give reassurance.
We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this occurrence.

Shalini Doal, a local employee, said she saw the scene when she first arrived at work around 22:00. They'd blocked off all the roads, she said, and a lot of people were walking around wondering what had happened, it was such a tumultuous scene.

A few of my coworkers were on break and said they heard a commotion outside around 9 o'clock,
they said.
The assault was troubling because she and her coworkers often ended their shifts as late as midnight or 01:00,
she said.
A lot of my coworkers take public transit and take the tram; our lives are in jeopardy, especially here in the city center,
she said.

Witnesses have been appealed by the police, and anyone who needs more information should call 102. Moor Street Queensway has been blocked from Moor Road Queensways to Smallbrook Queenstown, and Queensbury's westbound has Buses are being diverted to Moor Street. According to the BBC, the cordon is expected to be in place all day.
