Addressing the press at Lancaster House, Secretary Shapps will caution that the West stands at a "crossroads" and stress the necessity for robust preparedness in the face of evolving global threats. In an interview with Sky News' Kay Burley, Secretary Shapps echoed recent warnings from fellow cabinet member Lord Cameron, who highlighted the alarming state of global affairs. Lord Cameron emphasized that "the lights are absolutely flashing red on the global dashboard" due to increased danger, insecurity, and instability worldwide.
Shapps went on to express concerns about not only state actors like Putin's Russia and Iran but also non-state actors, referring to the persistent threat of terrorism. He emphasized the evolving nature of security challenges, including the potential involvement of individual actors, mirroring the terrorism seen at the beginning of the century.
