Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua Set for Heavyweight Showdown in Cardiff on December 11

Heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will finally settle their decade-long rivalry inside the ring on Friday, December 11th, at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.
The all-British super-fight will be streamed globally on Netflix and is promoted as a joint effort between Saudi Arabia's boxing brand The Ring, led by Turki Alalshikh, and UFC boss Dana White.
"Two of the best heavyweights of this generation, finally in the ring together," Alalshikh said. "This will be one of the biggest fights in boxing history. I am very happy to make this fight happen for the fans."
Alalshikh also posted on X:
"For 15 years no one has been able to make this fight. Back in April, I said that any announcement would come from me. I can now confirm that Fury ss Joshua will be coming to the UK, as I promised British boxing fans. The time for talking is over."
While the official start time remains unconfirmed, organizers are considering a late-night ringwalk that could potentially be between 01:00 and 02:00 GMT on Saturday morning to align with primetime viewing slots in the United States.
The venue has hosted early-morning bouts before, including Joe Calzaghe’s 2007 unification victory over Mikkel Kessler, which commenced at 01:00 GMT to accommodate American television schedules.
UFC chief Dana White praised the magnitude of the matchup:
"For more than a decade, boxing fans have been clamouring for the heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Together, they bring 66 wins, 52 knockouts and multiple heavyweight world titles into the ring. On December 11, two of the biggest heavyweights of this generation finally collide - and the winner will take a significant place in heavyweight history."
The path to finalizing the contract involved years of failed attempts, promotional friction, and venue disputes. While Madison Square Garden in New York and Wembley Stadium in London were previously considered, Joshua pushed for a UK venue.
Shortly before the official announcement, 36-year-old Joshua shared a message on Instagram:
"The quietest ones often pull the strings. Those who appear least involved may hold the greatest control. Let them shout first, the wisest wait until the final move. Yours truly, Anthony Joshua."
In a separate post, Joshua wrote "I am inspiring a generation".
Promoter Eddie Hearn expressed gratitude to local supporters, stating: "Forever indebted to the UK public for their support of Anthony Joshua. We couldn't have got this over the line without you."
Both former world champions come into the contest following recent recovery bouts. Joshua survived two early knockdowns in July to stop Kristian Prenga, while 38-year-old Fury returned from a temporary retirement following his losses to Oleksandr Usyk to outpoint Aslanbek Makhmudov before stopping Mariusz Wach in Thailand.
Joshua carries a professional record of 30-4 into the ring, while Fury stands at 36-2-1. The two fighters will face off publicly at a promotional launch event in London on Wednesday, September 30th.
