Transatlantic Alliance: Idris Elba’s 7Wallace and Nas’ Mass Appeal Ink Landmark Partnership
LONDON / NEW YORK — The bridge between London and New York just got a lot stronger. In a move set to redefine the global hip-hop landscape, Idris Elba’s independent label and creative studio, 7Wallace, has announced a sweeping strategic partnership with Mass Appeal Records, the influential media and music powerhouse co-founded by Nas.
The formal alliance, announced Thursday 5th March signals a "new era" of transatlantic collaboration, focusing on co-releases, cross-market distribution, and original content that merges music, film, and live experiences. The deal formalizes a relationship that caught fire last year with the release of Slick Rick’s critically acclaimed comeback album, VICTORY.
Investing in “Artists Who Shape Culture”
While many industry partnerships focus solely on streaming numbers, the 7Wallace and Mass Appeal union is being described as a "legacy-first" endeavor. The mission is clear: to honor the pioneers of UK and US rap while providing a global stage for the next generation of grassroots talent.
“The synergy between 7Wallace and Mass Appeal is clear—we have a shared respect for rap culture, for legacy, and for doing things with integrity,” said Rachel Prager, Head of Music at 7Wallace. “Every release in this next phase is intentional... we’re investing in artists who shape culture.”
To spearhead this growth, 7Wallace has also recruited industry heavyweight Char Grant as A&R Director. Grant, known for her deep-rooted connections to UK music culture, will lead the charge in identifying artists who can resonate on both sides of the Atlantic.
The "Slick Rick" Blueprint
The seeds for this partnership were sown during the production of VICTORY (2025), Slick Rick’s first full-length project in over two decades. The project was not just a record but a multi-sensory experience:
-
The Music: Produced by Elba and featuring Nas, Giggs, and Estelle.
-
The Film: A 30-minute visual companion directed by Meji Alabi, which screened at elite festivals including Tribeca and SXSW.
Peter Bittenbender, CEO of Mass Appeal, noted that the success of VICTORY served as the proof of concept for the wider deal. “It was a powerful example of what can happen when there’s true creative alignment,” Bittenbender stated. “We’re thrilled to extend the partnership and help amplify an exceptional slate of talent.”
A Multimodal Future
The partnership arrives at a time when both Idris Elba and Nas are expanding their business empires. In late 2025, Elba renewed his global publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), while Mass Appeal has recently expanded into international markets like Pakistan.
The new 7Wallace x Mass Appeal roadmap includes:
-
Co-Releases: Jointly funded and marketed albums from both UK and US-based artists.
-
Visual Storytelling: Collaborative films and documentaries under the executive production of Elba and Nas.
-
Live Experiences: Transatlantic tours and "cultural exchange" festivals.
As the lines between music, film, and media continue to blur, this partnership positions 7Wallace and Mass Appeal as the premier curators of global hip-hop heritage. With a slate of "intentional" releases rumoured for late 2026, the industry is watching closely to see who will be the first artist to benefit from this new global pipeline.
