Tragic School Shooting in Bryansk: Teenage Girl Takes Life of Fellow Pupil Before Turning Gun on Herself

Tragic School Shooting in Bryansk: Teenage Girl Takes Life of Fellow Pupil Before Turning Gun on Herself

In a devastating incident at Gymnasium No 5 in Bryansk, a 14-year-old girl shot and killed a fellow pupil before turning the gun on herself.

The tragedy unfolded on Thursday morning, leaving five others injured. The firearm used in the attack was registered in the girl's father's name, highlighting what Alexander Khinshtein, a member of the Russian Duma, called a "neglectful attitude" towards gun storage.

Officials are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the motive behind the shooting and how the teenager gained access to the pump-action shotgun.

The incident has shocked the community in Bryansk, known for its proximity to the Ukrainian and Belarusian borders. Students, teachers, and parents at the school are now receiving psychological support, acknowledging the emotional toll of the event.

Reports indicate that the students took quick action during the shooting, barricading themselves in a classroom as they awaited police assistance.

This marks a grim occurrence, as recent years have witnessed several school shootings in Russia. Notably, this incident is unique as it involves a female shooter, a departure from previous cases.

The tragedy has reignited discussions about the enforcement of strict gun laws in the country, which require firearms to be stored securely and regularly inspected by authorities.
