The Ultimate Playdate: ‘Preschool’ Comedy Trailer

The Ultimate Playdate: ‘Preschool’ Comedy Trailer

The Ultimate Playdate: Josh Duhamel and Michael Socha Go to War in ‘Preschool’ Comedy Trailer

LONDON — Forget the boardroom and the battlefield; the most brutal combat of 2026 is happening in the admissions office of an elite London nursery. Paramount Pictures has released the official trailer for Preschool, a riotous new comedy that pits two desperate fathers against one another in a quest for the ultimate prize: the final open enrollment spot at a "prestige" academy (trailer below).

The film, which marks Josh Duhamel’s third directorial effort following his Buddy Games franchise, sees the Transformers star trading his action-hero boots for a diaper bag as he goes head-to-head with This Is England and Misfits actor Michael Socha.

A War of Nannies and Nap-Times

The trailer introduces us to two dads at opposite ends of the social spectrum who share one common obsession, giving their children a competitive edge before they’ve even learned to tie their shoes.

Set against the backdrop of London’s ultra-posh school system, the "feud" begins when both fathers realize there is only one vacancy left at an academy so exclusive it reportedly requires a background check on the family pet. What starts as polite "one-upmanship" quickly devolves into:

  • Sabotaged Playdates: Strategic social engineering to make the rival child look "un-teachable."

  • Background Intel: Hilarious deep-dives into each other’s financial and personal histories.

  • Outrageous Schemes: From faking "aristocratic" lineage to mid-morning high-speed chases across the city.

“It’s about what we’re willing to do for our kids—and the absolute insanity we’re willing to inflict on ourselves to do it,” Duhamel said in a recent interview. “It’s Step Brothers meets The Crown, but with more juice boxes.”

A Powerhouse Ensemble

While the central rivalry between Duhamel and Socha drives the engine, the supporting cast is a "who's who" of British and American talent:

  • Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor) stars as the voice of reason (and frustration) caught in the crossfire.

  • Charity Wakefield and Fenella Woolgar bring the "judgy-parent" energy to life.

  • James Cosmo (Braveheart) reportedly steals scenes as a terrifyingly stern admissions board member who treats preschool applications like a military tribunal.

The “London Calling” Influence

The film marks an interesting creative chapter for Duhamel, who has recently spent significant time filming in the UK for projects like London Calling. By setting Preschool in London, Duhamel leans into the sharp, satirical "class-war" humor that has become a staple of British comedy, while maintaining the slapstick energy of his previous directorial work.

The screenplay, penned by Richard D’Ovidio (The Call), reportedly shifts gears in the third act, moving from broad comedy to a more grounded exploration of the modern "parenting arms race" and the pressure put on toddlers to succeed in a hyper-competitive world.
