Taylor Swift Makes VMA History With Fourth Video of the Year Award

Taylor Swift Makes VMA History With Fourth Video of the Year Award

Taylor Swift made history on Wednesday 12th September 2023 by winning the MTV Video Music Awards “Video of the Year” award for the fourth time.

The artist took the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey by storm, winning nine of her eleven nominations including, Show of the Summer and Album of the Year for her tenth studio album Midnights. However, her most notable achievement from the night is her fourth win of the Video of the Year award for her song “Anti-Hero”, which also won 5 other awards. Her previous wins for this award were for “Bad Blood” (2015),  “You Need to Calm Down” (2019), and “All Too Well: The Short Film” (2022).

Her nine wins gives her a tie for the most awards won at the VMAs in one night according to MTV. She now holds second place for the most VMAs won in her career with 23, putting her behind music icon Beyonce, who currently has 26 VMA trophies to her name. This now places her above Madonna, who won 20.

The night was hosted by Nicki Minaj for the second year in a row and saw the celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop and the introduction of the Afrobeats award. The ceremony was jam-packed with 20 performances from different artists including Olivia Rodruigo and Shakira, who became the first Colombian to win the Video Vanguard award.
