Final Score:

England Women: 116 all out (19.0 overs)

Sri Lanka Women: 117 - 3 (17.0 overs)

The Sri Lankan Women’s Cricket Team made history yesterday with their first series victory against the English Women’s Cricket Team, taking the third T20I by 8 wickets and securing a 2-1 win with 40 balls left. This loss for England makes it their second time losing a bilateral T20I series to a team other than Australia since their 2010 loss against New Zealand.

Sri Lankan Captain and Player of the Match Chamari Athapaththu produced some incredible shots, including narrowly avoiding sending a shot into a local residents balcony, leaving them with only 24 runs required to win halfway through yesterday’s innings. However, it is not only the batting team that should be credited, but their bowling team as well for keeping England to such a low score. The bowlers came out with a lot of spin, a weakness in the English side acknowledged by captain Heather Knight.

The risk taken by the English side to rest some of their players to give experience to others didn’t produce a win for the team this time, but with excellent performances from both sides it was certainly a game to remember.
