‘A West Coast Classic Reimagined’: Snoop Dogg Drops Animated Visual for Doggystyle Fan-Favourite “Lodi Dodi”
LOS ANGELES — Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg has given one of his most iconic early tracks a vibrant 21st-century update, releasing an official animated music video for his 1993 Doggystyle classic, “Lodi Dodi” (video below - Parental Advisory, Bad Language & Constant Use Of The "N" Word).
Directed by renowned digital animator Tristan Zammit, professionally known as Tristious—the new visual transforms the West Coast rap anthem into a colorful animated world, bridging 1990s G-funk nostalgia with contemporary digital internet culture.
The release marks a strategic effort by the 55-year-old rap mogul to re-engage younger audiences after the track surged in popularity across social media platforms, including TikTok, through user-generated edits.
Passing the Torch Across Rap Generations
Originally recorded for his groundbreaking multi-platinum debut studio album Doggystyle, “Lodi Dodi” holds a unique position in hip-hop history.
The track is an affectionate West Coast cover and tribute to Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh’s seminal 1985 beatbox classic “La Di Da Di”. By introducing a sleek, stylized animated narrative for the song, Snoop Dogg continues a multi-decade lineage of story-sharing across rap eras.
"Snoop Dogg was already showing how hip-hop could pass a story from one generation to the next," noted music trade commentators following the visual launch. "Bringing a familiar West Coast record into a colorful animated world provides another reason for longtime fans to run the original back while inviting new listeners in."
The visual features animated renditions of young Snoop navigating Long Beach, complete with retro street fashion, classic lowriders, and nod-filled homages to Death Row Records' Golden Era aesthetic.
Death Row's Expanded Animation Push
The new animated short arrives amidst a broader push by Snoop Dogg into animated entertainment under his owned and operated Death Row Pictures imprint.
Alongside his children's educational media brand Doggyland, the rap icon has previously confirmed development on a feature-length, R-rated animated Doggystyle movie alongside his upcoming studio biopic.
Collaborating with Zammit, who has previously crafted animated music videos for artists such as Lil Uzi Vert, Juice WRLD and Trippie Redd, underscores Death Row's intention to leverage modern visual storytelling to maintain the commercial vitality of its legacy catalogue.
Streaming Impact
The animated release is expected to drive a surge in catalog streaming figures for Doggystyle, which recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary with an expanded digital and physical reissue.
With the video now live across official streaming channels, Snoop Dogg continues to set the benchmark for how legacy hip-hop artists can creatively refresh their classic repertoire for modern audiences.
