Russia to Deploy New Howitzers Against Ukrainian Forces

Russia is set to deploy its newest howitzers, the Coalition-SV self-propelled artillery units, against Ukrainian forces as part of its ongoing military operation, according to Sergei Chemezov, the head of the Rostec state defense conglomerate. The testing of the Coalition-SV units has been completed, and mass production is underway, with the first pilot batch expected to be delivered by the end of 2023.

Chemezov stated in an interview with RIA news agency that the howitzers of this class would soon appear on the battlefield in Ukraine to provide an advantage over Western artillery models in terms of firing range. The Coalition-SV howitzers reportedly have a range of up to 70 kilometers (44 miles) and are equipped with a modern 2A88 cannon of 152 mm caliber, firing at a rate of more than 10 rounds per minute. The artillery units also feature a modern system for automating processes such as gun pointing, target selection, and navigation.

Earlier this month, Russia's TASS state news agency reported that single Coalition-SV howitzers had already been deployed to the frontline in Ukraine. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has seen the use of various military equipment and technologies, and the deployment of new howitzers is likely to impact the dynamics of the conflict.
