‘It Was Very Traumatic’: Ruby Rose Reveals She Was Accused of Murder at 15 After Trying to Save Dying Child
LOS ANGELES — Australian actor and model Ruby Rose has shared a harrowing personal story from her adolescence, revealing she was questioned by police for murder at age 15 after attempting to administer emergency first aid to a dying child.
Speaking during a candid appearance on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Off the Vine podcast on Tuesday, the 40-year-old Orange Is the New Black star recalled the traumatic incident, which occurred after she discovered a severely injured young boy while attending a house party with her mother.
Rose explained that she and a friend noticed the child bleeding from his ears, nose, and mouth after suffering a fatal fall, prompting them to rush to his aid before paramedics arrived.
A Traumatic Discovery at a House Party
Detailing the ordeal, Rose described the immediate panic when she realized the severity of the child's injuries.
"My friend and I locked eyes and we started walking towards it. As we got close enough, we could tell this was a real human," Rose recounted. "There was blood coming out of his ear, nose, mouth. It was very traumatic."
The child was rushed to hospital and placed on life support, but ultimately succumbed to severe brain damage. Rose recalled receiving the devastating update that doctors did not expect him to survive.
Police Interrogation and High School Bullying
The tragedy deepened the following day when police officers arrived at Rose's high school to question her regarding the boy's death.
The public police investigation triggered intense hostility from fellow pupils, who subjected the teenage Rose to severe bullying.
"People were like, 'Baby killer!'" Rose revealed. "I got a call saying that he probably wouldn't be okay, that they were keeping him on a machine and it didn't look great. I just sent love to the family."
Although detectives fully cleared Rose of any involvement after the boy's brother confirmed what had happened, the fallout alienated her from her peers and local community.
Despite being vindicated, Rose was asked not to attend the child's funeral at the request of the grieving mother. "Everyone went except me," she reflected.
Reflecting on Past Trauma
The former Batwoman star noted that the incident left deep emotional scars during her formative teenage years, contributing to her feelings of isolation before she launched her modelling and broadcasting career in Australia.
Rose has since continued her career across international film and television projects while remaining an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness.
