‘Full Support of DC Studios’: Production on The Batman Part II Halted as Director Matt Reeves Steps Away

LONDON — Filming on Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ highly anticipated blockbuster The Batman Part II has come to an unexpected standstill after director Matt Reeves was forced to temporarily step away from the London production to attend to a "family matter".

The sudden pause was confirmed by studio executives on Monday afternoon following initial reports from Deadline.

DC Studios issued an official statement extending its backing to the 60-year-old filmmaker as cameras ceased rolling across UK soundstages and location sets.

"Production on 'The Batman Part II' has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter," a spokesperson for DC Studios stated. "Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."

Filming Interrupted in London

Principal photography on the sequel had been actively underway in and around London since July, with Robert Pattinson returning as the Caped Crusader alongside returning cast members Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright.

The project had recently expanded its ensemble with high-profile additions including Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.

While the nature of the personal situation remains undisclosed out of respect for the director's privacy, trade sources indicate that studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran took immediate steps to facilitate a production halt so Reeves could fly home to be with his family.

Industry analysts note that while filming breaks mid-production can incur significant daily costs for major studio blockbusters, Warner Bros. Discovery opted to prioritize the filmmaker's well-being over schedule pressure.

Release Date Impact Unclear

The Batman Part II is currently slated for a theatrical release on 18th February 2028.

Sources close to the production stated it is "too early to tell" whether the sudden stoppage will force a further shift in the film's global release window.

The sequel has already navigated a protracted development timeline influenced by the 2023 Hollywood writers' strike and extensive script revisions.

DC's Elseworlds Banner

The Batman Part II forms a central pillar of DC Studios' "Elseworlds" branding a distinct banner reserved for standalone projects operating outside the primary interconnected DC Universe (DCU) continuity managed by Gunn and Safran.

Following the critical and commercial success of the 2022 original, which grossed over $772 million (£578 million) worldwide, expectations surrounding Reeves' darker, detective-focused vision remain immensely high among global cinema audiences.

Further updates regarding the resumption of principal photography in London are expected once the director returns to set.
