Doors Closed at Godolkin: Prime Video Cancels The Boys Spin-Off Gen V
LONDON — The supes of Godolkin University have fought their last battle on campus. Prime Video has officially cancelled Gen V, the young-adult spin-off of the hit superhero satire The Boys, after just two seasons.
The decision, confirmed by showrunners Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg on Friday, brings a sudden end to the collegiate caper just six months after its second season concluded in October 2025. While the show was a critical darling, industry insiders suggest that a dip in viewership during its sophomore run, combined with a "creative pivot" toward the main series’ endgame, led to the cancellation.
‘You’ll See Them Again’
Despite the axe falling on the standalone series, fans of Marie Moreau and the "Godolkin Four" need not mourn just yet. In a joint statement, the executive producers assured the audience that the characters will remain integral to the wider "Vought Cinematic Universe."
“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” Kripke and Goldberg said. “You’ll see them again.”
The news coincides with the final episodes of The Boys Season 5, which is currently airing its final season on Prime Video. Several Gen V leads, including Jaz Sinclair and Lizze Broadway, have already made impactful appearances in the flagship show’s "resistance" storyline.
A Production Defined by Tragedy
The road for Gen V was famously difficult. Production on Season 2 was marred by the tragic death of cast member Chance Perdomo in a motorcycle accident in March 2024.
The writers made the difficult decision not to recast his role as Andre Anderson, instead reworking the entire season to honour the actor. While Season 2 received praise for its emotional maturity, the significant production delays and compressed narrative reportedly made a third season logistically and creatively challenging for the studio.
The Vought Cinematic Universe (VCU) Roadmap
| Project | Status | Release / Outcome |
| Gen V | Cancelled | Ends after 2 Seasons (April 2026) |
| The Boys | Final Season | Series Finale airs 20th May 2026 |
| Vought Rising | In Production | Slated for 2027 |
| The Boys: Mexico | In Development | TBC |
The ‘Vought Rising’ Pivot
The cancellation appears to be part of a broader consolidation of the franchise. As The Boys prepares for its definitive series finale on 20 May 2026, Amazon is shifting its focus toward the prequel series Vought Rising.
Set in the 1950s, the upcoming spin-off will see Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy) and Aya Cash (Stormfront) return to explore the origins of the Vought corporation. Analysts suggest that with the main show ending, the studio is opting for high-concept prequels rather than continuing the "YA" format of Gen V.
The Verdict
For the cast, the future remains bright. Asa Germann, who played the fan-favourite Sam Riordan, has already secured a series regular role in the Paramount+ drama Frisco King, a move that many saw as the writing on the wall for the Godolkin crew.
While the university doors have slammed shut, the legacy of Gen V—which successfully injected a dose of Cronenberg-esque body horror into the superhero genre—is expected to be felt in the "explosive" final weeks of The Boys.
The Boys Season 5 continues Wednesdays on Prime Video, with the series finale scheduled for 20 May 2026.
