‘It’s a No-Brainer’: Oscar Isaac Confirms Conversations for Marvel’s Midnight Sons

LOS ANGELES — The supernatural corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe appears to be finally stepping out of the shadows. Oscar Isaac, the star behind the multifaceted Marc Spector in Moon Knight, has confirmed that high-level discussions regarding a Midnight Sons film have officially taken place at Marvel Studios.

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on Monday to promote the second season of the Netflix hit Beef, Isaac broke his long-standing silence on the future of his character, hinting that the "occult Avengers" may be the vehicle for his return to the big screen.

‘Playing With Real Stuff’

While a second season of Moon Knight remains unconfirmed, Isaac revealed that the creative direction for a potential Midnight Sons team-up is being treated with a distinct level of gravity by the studio.

“Yeah, there was an interesting talk about Midnight Sons,” Isaac told host Josh Horowitz. “Tonally, it’s really important because we’re playing with real stuff with that one. It’s expressing something very real, challenging, and difficult. If you’re going to go there, you have to take it seriously.”

The actor’s comments align with Marvel’s recent pivot towards "Special Presentations" and darker theatrical offerings, such as the critically acclaimed Werewolf by Night and the upcoming Blade reboot.

The ‘Drive’ Reunion: Isaac Eyes Ryan Gosling for Ghost Rider

In a moment that set social media alight, Isaac also weighed in on the persistent fan-casting of his Drive co-star Ryan Gosling as the MCU’s Ghost Rider. When Horowitz suggested the pairing, Isaac didn't hesitate to give his blessing.

“Make it happen, fellas. I mean, it’s a no-brainer,” Isaac replied.

Gosling, currently generating massive buzz for his upcoming lead role in Project Hail Mary, has previously admitted to having "some discussions" with Marvel regarding the Spirit of Vengeance, though he described the situation as "complicated."

Potential Midnight Sons MCU Line-up

Character Actor Last Appearance / Status
Moon Knight Oscar Isaac Moon Knight Season 1 (2022)
Blade Mahershala Ali Blade (Production ongoing)
Werewolf by Night Gael García Bernal Werewolf by Night (2022)
Elsa Bloodstone Laura Donnelly Werewolf by Night (2022)
Ghost Rider TBA (Ryan Gosling?) Rumoured for Phase 7
Doctor Strange Benedict Cumberbatch Multiverse of Madness (2022)

A Post-Multiverse Priority?

While Marvel Studios has yet to officially add Midnight Sons to its theatrical slate, industry insiders suggest the project is being developed as a "tentpole" for the post-Multiverse Saga era.

The strategy appears to be a response to the "superhero fatigue" often cited by critics, with the studio looking to diversify its genres by leaning into the horror-fantasy elements of the comics. By uniting Moon Knight with Mahershala Ali’s Blade and potentially a new Ghost Rider, Marvel would be assembling a team with a significantly grittier, more "visceral" aesthetic than the mainline Avengers.

The ‘Marc Spector’ Dilemma

For Isaac, the appeal lies in the psychological complexity of his character. During the podcast, he noted that the "groundwork" laid in his Disney+ series, introducing personalities Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley, provides a unique dynamic for a team setting.

“Seeing how those identities interact with other characters who have similarly dark backstories... that’s the gold,” Isaac added.

As fans look toward San Diego Comic-Con this summer for potential Phase 7 announcements, Isaac’s "interesting talk" has turned what was once a pipe dream into the MCU's most anticipated supernatural certainty.
