‘Action First, Emotion Always’: Netflix Unveils Trailer for John Wick-Style Thriller My Dearest Assassin

BANGKOK — Netflix has officially pulled back the curtain on its most ambitious Thai action project to date. The first trailer for My Dearest Assassin (titled Luead Rak Nak Kha in Thailand) landed on Friday, 10th April, immediately drawing widespread comparisons to the John Wick franchise for its highly stylised, "gun-fu" combat and deep-rooted underworld mythology (trailer below).

Scheduled for a global premiere on 7th May 2026, the film marks a significant departure from traditional Thai cinema, blending the "bone-breaking" kineticism of The Raid with a poignant, found-family narrative.

The ‘Blind Bandit’ of House 89

The trailer introduces audiences to Lhan (played by Thai superstar Baifern-Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul), a young woman born with a rare blood type that has made her a lifelong target. After witnessing the murder of her parents as a child, she is rescued and raised by House 89, a secretive clan of elite contract killers.

Unlike the typical "assassin" trope, Lhan was raised within the clan but never formally trained to kill—until a brutal assault on her surrogate family forces her to pick up the blade.

“In John Wick, you have a man returning to a world he left,” noted film critic Ananya Sahni. “In My Dearest Assassin, you have a woman forced into a world she was shielded from. It’s a ‘coming-of-age’ spin on the tactical thriller that feels incredibly fresh.”

A New Breed of Combat

Directed by Taweewat Wantha, who recently found global success with the horror-hit Death Whisperer, the film promises a "visceral and raw" approach to stunt work. The trailer showcases a variety of fighting styles that reflect the diverse members of House 89.

My Dearest Assassin – The Roster of House 89

Character Actor Specialty / Style
Lhan Baifern-Pimchanok Defensive / Improvised combat
Pran Tor-Thanapob Freerunning / High-mobility striking
M Porsche-Sivakorn Close-quarters tactical firearms
Phurek Toni Rakkaen Heavy munitions / Overwatch

‘Action First, Rooted in Emotion’

The film’s tagline, “Action first, but rooted in emotion,” appears to be the guiding principle for the production. During a press event in Bangkok over the weekend, director Wantha emphasised that while the shootouts and martial arts spectacle are a priority, the heart of the movie lies in the "found family" of the assassins.

“The love within House 89 is so powerful that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for each other,” Wantha explained. “It’s about love and relationships that go beyond blood ties.”

A Massive Thai ‘Link-Up’

The casting of Baifern-Pimchanok and Tor-Thanapob (known for Ghost Lab) has already generated immense buzz across Asia. This marks the first time the two A-listers have paired up on screen, a move that Netflix Thailand hopes will replicate the global crossover success of 2024’s Ready, Set, Love.

With its neon-soaked Bangkok backdrop, meticulously choreographed knife fights, and a protagonist fighting to protect the only family she has ever known, My Dearest Assassin is being positioned as Netflix’s next major international action franchise.

All eyes are now on 7th May, when Lhan and the members of House 89 make their deadly debut.
