‘Why Did We Get Married… Again?’: Netflix Drops First Trailer for Tyler Perry’s Italian Reunion Threequel

LOS ANGELES — Sixteen years after their last disastrous getaway in the Bahamas, the beloved friend group from Tyler Perry’s iconic relationship comedy franchise is reuniting for another emotional and explosive milestone.

Netflix has released the official first-look trailer for Why Did I Get Married Again?, confirming that the long-awaited third instalment will premiere globally on the streaming platform on 9th September 2026 (trailer below).

Written, directed by, and starring Perry, the threequel transports the familiar circle of friends to the picturesque shores of Lake Como, Italy. However, as the trailer reveals, breathtaking Mediterranean backdrops prove no match for unresolved marital drama, long-buried secrets, and generational friction.

A Next-Generation Destination Wedding

The narrative catalyst for the reunion is the lavish wedding of Jasmine (Armani Greer), the daughter of fan-favourite couple Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela (Tasha Smith), and her athlete fiancé Wesley (Everett Osborne).

Bringing the longtime friends together after years apart, the Italian nuptials force the parents to confront a startling realization: their now-grown children are repeating the exact same relationship mistakes they once made.

"We've seen these couples go through everything, but watching them navigate their kids making the same mistakes? That's a whole new level of drama," Perry shared in a recent statement discussing the film's premise. "I wanted to explore how the trauma and triumphs we experience in our own marriages bleed into the next generation."

Taraji P. Henson Joins the Franchise

Alongside returning stars Jill Scott (Sheila), Lamman Rucker (Troy), Sharon Leal (Dianne), Richard T. Jones (Mike), and Perry himself (Terry), the threequel introduces Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson to the ensemble.

Henson steps into the universe as Roselyn, a formidable and successful businesswoman who happens to be the mother of the groom. The trailer hints at immediate friction between Roselyn and Angela, setting off a fireworks display of sharp exchanges and comedic clashes.

Henson described her character as an "absolute firecracker" brought in to disrupt the group’s established dynamics:

"The original cast is already so iconic, so coming into this universe, I knew I had to bring something completely unexpected that disrupts their peace," Henson revealed.

Chaos in Lake Como

The two-minute trailer promises fans everything that made the 2007 original Why Did I Get Married? and its 2010 sequel Why Did I Get Married Too? massive cultural touchstones: explosive arguments, heartfelt reflections, and plenty of trademark humor.

From Angela demanding a drink stronger than Sheila’s offered glass of wine to a heated altercation breaking out during a formal dinner, the preview makes clear that age has not necessarily brought tranquility to the group.

With the picture locked at a runtime of 109 minutes, Why Did I Get Married Again? lands on Netflix on 9th September, kicking off the autumn streaming calendar with one of comedy's most anticipated reunions.
