‘Refined and Powerful’: Ms. Lauryn Hill Unveiled as the Face of Denim Tears Spring/Summer 2026

NEW YORK — In a collaboration that seamlessly fuses musical legacy with cultural storytelling, Ms. Lauryn Hill has been named the star of the Denim Tears Spring/Summer 2026 campaign. The announcement, which arrived on Wednesday morning, 15 April, sees the eight-time Grammy winner take centre stage for the brand’s latest collection, titled Libertas.

Photographed by Liam MacRae and Justin Sarinana, the campaign features a series of striking black-and-white images that capture Hill in a minimalist, academic setting, a subtle nod to the themes of "re-education" and historical narrative that have defined her career.

The ‘Libertas’ Collection: Breaking Chains

Behind the brand is Tremaine Emory, the former creative director of Supreme, who founded Denim Tears in 2019 to explore African diasporic history through streetwear. For Spring/Summer 2026, Emory uses the collection to highlight the "hidden history" of the Statue of Liberty.

While the monument is often viewed as a symbol of immigration, the Libertas collection brings the broken shackles at the statue’s feet, originally intended by sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi to signify the end of slavery—to the forefront of the design.

“Ms. Lauryn Hill is the ultimate embodiment of this narrative,” a spokesperson for the brand stated. “Her work has always been about unearthing truth and reclaiming identity. She doesn’t just wear the clothes; she carries the story.”

Signature Wreaths and Structured Denim

In the primary campaign shot, Hill is seen wearing the brand’s signature "cotton wreath" denim jacket, layered over a crisp button-up shirt and accessorised with oversized YSL frames and stacked bangle jewellery. The styling creates a silhouette that is both "snatched" and structured, blending haute couture sensibilities with high-end streetwear.

A Season of ‘Reinvention’

The Denim Tears campaign marks the latest in a busy "fashion spring" for the reclusive star. Following a widely praised performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards in Carolina Herrera, Hill also recently appeared on the cover of CR Fashion Book’s "Reinvention" issue alongside Wyclef Jean, sparking renewed rumours of a Fugees creative reunion.

The Spring/Summer 2026 collection introduces new technical updates to the Denim Tears aesthetic, including the use of oxidised studs and floral graphics to refresh the core wreath design. The collection also expands into accessories, featuring "Liberty" belts and keychains that mirror the collection’s focus on emancipation.

Where to Buy

The first stage of the Libertas collection is set to drop this Friday, 17th April 2026, at 11am EST via the official Denim Tears website and at the African Diaspora Goods store in Soho, New York.

As the brand continues to expand its global footprint from New York to Tokyo, the inclusion of an icon like Hill, who has spent decades at the intersection of music, activism, and style is being seen as a definitive statement of intent for Emory’s vision.
