Mother Charged with Murder of Four-Year-Old Son
A 41-year-old mother, Keziah Macharia, has been charged with the murder of her four-year-old son, Kobi Macharia Dooly.
The tragedy unfolded on Wednesday night when police responded to concerns about the child's welfare at an address on Montague Road, Hackney, London. Inside the residence, officers discovered Kobi, who had sustained knife injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he later died from his injuries.
The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation following the distressing discovery.
Macharia made her first court appearance at Thames Magistrates' Court on Friday, where she was charged with the murder of her son. She is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on December 28.
Kobi's post-mortem examination is scheduled for 28 December, the same day Ms. Macharia is set to appear at the Old Bailey.
DCS James Conway of the Metropolitan Police expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, "This is an extremely distressing incident which will understandably cause shock and disbelief amongst the local community and those who attended the scene. We are working with our partners, including Hackney Council and the school community, to ensure support is there for people who need it."
The incident has prompted heightened police presence in the area, although authorities assure there is no broader public safety risk. As the community grapples with the shocking event, efforts are underway to ensure that the necessary assistance and resources are available for those in need.
