King of Pop Heads Home: Michael Jackson Biopic 'Michael' Confirms Digital Release Date
LONDON — Lionsgate has officially confirmed that its record-breaking Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, will be available on premium digital platforms on Tuesday 9th June 2026.
The announcement comes after an extraordinarily lucrative theatrical run that has seen the musical drama dominate global box offices, cementing its status as one of the biggest cinematic events of the year.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson, the real-life nephew of the late King of Pop. The film has grossed more than $851 million worldwide since its theatrical launch on 24th April. Film industry analysts note that the 46-day window between its cinema debut and home release strictly aligns with contemporary Hollywood post-pandemic distribution strategies.
"A towering theatrical achievement that has captured the public's imagination, proving the enduring, global allure of the Jackson legacy."
Box Office Breakdown
The film shattered initial expectations, securing the biggest opening weekend for a music biopic in cinema history with a massive $218.8 million global debut. Despite drawing mixed reviews from some critics regarding its handling of the singer's complex personal history, audience reception has been overwhelmingly positive.
| Market | Box Office Gross (USD) |
| Domestic (North America) | $341.6 million |
| International | $509.6 million |
| Worldwide Total | $851.2 million |
While the film continues to screen in thousands of multiplexes globally, and with highly anticipated theatrical openings still scheduled for markets like Japan later this month, cinemagoers will soon have the option to experience the spectacle from the comfort of their own living rooms.
How to Watch at Home
Starting next Tuesday, UK audiences will be able to purchase the film via Premium Electronic Sell-Thru or rent it for a 48-hour window on Premium Video on Demand (PVOD). The title will be accessible across major digital storefronts, including Prime Video, Apple TV, Google TV, and YouTube Movies.
For purists holding out for physical media, Lionsgate has also scheduled a comprehensive physical rollout. Michael will land on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 14th July 2026. The physical packages are set to feature substantial bonus material, including exhaustive behind-the-scenes featurettes on the makeup transformations, choreography, and the meticulous recreation of Jackson's historic Motown 25 performance.
With the film widely expected to safely cross the $900 million mark, speculation has already turned to Hollywood's next move. Sources close to the studio indicate that early-stage conversations regarding a potential sequel are already underway, potentially exploring the highly publicised and tumultuous later decades of the pop icon's life.
