Marvel Studios Confirms Yearly Release Schedule for ‘X-Men ’97’

Mutant Mayhem Locked In: Marvel Studios Confirms Yearly Release Schedule for ‘X-Men ’97’ Seasons Three and Four

LOS ANGELES — Fans of Marvel’s critically acclaimed animated revival X-Men ’97 can breathe a sigh of relief. Following an agonizing two-year gap between its celebrated first season and its second outing, Marvel Animation has officially streamlined its production pipeline to ensure that future seasons arrive far sooner than anticipated.

Speaking during a press screening for the X-Men ’97 Season 2 finale, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' Head of Television, Streaming, and Animation, confirmed that Season 3 will premiere in 2027, followed swiftly by Season 4 in 2028.

The announcement cements an aggressive, annual release cadence for the mutant saga, effectively putting an end to the agonizing multi-year production gaps that have become commonplace across modern streaming television.

‘Even a Year Feels Too Long’

Acknowledging the frustration surrounding the prolonged wait for Season 2, Winderbaum emphasized that Marvel Television has re-engineered its internal animation workflow to guarantee an annual drop.

"Season 3 is going to come out next year and Season 4 the year after that," Winderbaum stated without hesitation when asked about the future of the series. "Even a year feels too long. I remember watching these every single day after school, and then they would be on as reruns... I just want to make as many [seasons] as fast as possible for people to see."

Veteran animator and executive producer Larry Houston previously reassured fans that the two-year delay preceding Season 2 was an isolated "one-off" learning curve. With animation work for Season 3 already nearing completion and animatics actively underway for Season 4, Marvel has locked in a reliable pipeline.

Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and New Threats

The news comes on the heels of major narrative reveals unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con, where attendees were treated to an exclusive first-look clip from Season 3.

The footage showcased the dramatic return of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, featuring classic foes Pyro, Avalanche, Blob, and Toad, alongside a fresh recruit in the form of electricity-manipulating teenage mutant Surge. The teaser depicted the group clashing with a sinister new Sentinel variant decked out in patriotic government livery, signaling that geopolitical anti-mutant tensions will remain at a boiling point.

To maintain this tight, annual release window, industry sources indicate that upcoming seasons may adopt a slightly leaner, highly focused episode count, ensuring breakneck pacing without compromising the show's signature visual density.

A Milestone for Marvel Streaming

Holding a near-unanimous 99 per cent critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, X-Men ’97 has stood out as one of Disney+’s premier original series.

By committing to a strict year-on-year release schedule alongside sister animated hit Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Marvel Animation is setting a new industry standard for high-end serialized animation.

With Season 2 currently unfolding and the next two chapters officially fast-tracked, mutant fans can look forward to uninterrupted yearly adventures through the late 2020s.
