Time Loops and Tiger Sharks: Keanu Reeves Teams with Tim Miller for High-Concept Thriller ‘Shiver’
BURBANK, CA — Keanu Reeves is officially heading back to the future and into the deep end. Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed this week that the action icon has signed on to lead "Shiver," a high-concept sci-fi adventure directed by Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate filmmaker Tim Miller.
Described by insiders as a cross between the time-loop intensity of Edge of Tomorrow and the isolated survival dread of the shark thriller The Shallows, the project has been fast-tracked following a heated bidding war among major studios.
The Plot: A "Deadly Caribbean Double-Cross"
In a role that appears to lean into Reeves’ signature blend of grit and world-weariness, the actor will portray a "ne'er-do-well" smuggler operating in the Caribbean.
According to the official logline, the story kicks off when a routine job turns into a lethal double-cross. Reeves’ character finds himself stranded at sea, surrounded by floating bodies, hostile mercenaries, and bloodthirsty sharks. However, the true sci-fi twist arrives when he discovers he is trapped in a lethal time loop, forced to relive the harrowing events until he can find a way to break the cycle and escape his watery grave.
A "Director Jail" Break for Tim Miller
For Tim Miller, Shiver represents a major return to large-scale feature filmmaking. Despite the massive success of the first Deadpool, Miller famously left the sequel over creative differences and faced a difficult reception for his follow-up, Terminator: Dark Fate.
The director has remained active as a producer on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and as the creative force behind Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots, but Shiver marks his first time back in the director's chair since 2019.
“Tim has an incredible eye for blending visceral action with complex visual effects,” said producer Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman), who is producing via his Marv Films banner alongside Aaron Ryder (Arrival). “Combining his vision with Keanu’s legendary screen presence is exactly the kind of event-cinema audiences are craving.”
The "Keanu-issance" Continues
Reeves remains one of the busiest men in Hollywood. Despite 2025’s Ballerina and Good Fortune receiving mixed box office returns, the actor's 2026 slate is loaded with high-brow projects:
-
Outcome: A dark comedy directed by Jonah Hill.
-
The Entertainment System Is Down: A satirical thriller from Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund.
-
BRZRKR: The long-awaited Netflix adaptation of his own comic book series.
Release Intel
Warner Bros. has officially dated Shiver for a theatrical release on 13th August 2027. The summer window suggests the studio has massive confidence in the project's blockbuster potential.
The script, penned by Ian Schorr (Infinite, Splinter), is reportedly focused on keeping the action "grounded and brutal," despite the supernatural time-loop elements. Production is expected to begin in late 2026, utilizing extensive water-tank work and cutting-edge VFX to bring the "sharks and cycles" to life.
