Katy Perry Bids Farewell to American Idol After Seven Seasons

Katy Perry Bids Farewell to American Idol After Seven Seasons

Pop sensation Katy Perry has announced her departure from American Idol during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The 39-year-old singer, who has been a judge on the show since 2018, shared her decision, saying, "I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol." Perry cited a desire to explore the world and hinted at new music ventures. Despite leaving, she left the door open for a potential return, stating, "Maybe I'll come back if they have me one day." Perry's departure comes ahead of American Idol's twenty-second season premiere on Sunday.

The decision is reportedly a surprise to her co-judges, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, as she mentioned on Jimmy Kimmel Live, "Well, they'll find out tonight. They know that I have some things planned for this year." Perry emphasised her excitement for the coming year and her upcoming performance at the Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil. This marks the end of her seven-season run on the popular talent show, where she faced both acclaim and controversy for her judging style.

Perry's time on American Idol has seen its share of headlines, including a "mom-shaming" incident and a contestant expressing discomfort after she kissed him on the lips. Despite the controversies, Perry's impact on the show has been undeniable. With her departure, fans are left wondering about the future dynamics of the judging panel.

Perry, who sold the rights to her five studio albums for a reported $225 million last year, now prepares to spread her wings beyond American Idol, creating anticipation for her next chapter in the entertainment world.
