Kagurabachi Anime Officially Confirmed

‘Bachin’ Time’: Kagurabachi Anime Officially Confirmed for 2027 Following Viral Manga Success

TOKYO — The "sword-swinging" phenomenon that took the internet by storm before its first chapter even hit shelves is finally making the leap to the small screen. Shueisha officially confirmed on Monday 27th April, that Takeru Hokazono’s breakout manga Kagurabachi has been greenlit for a TV anime adaptation.

The announcement was made during a high-profile "Jump Press" showcase event, accompanied by a gritty teaser trailer and a striking key visual featuring the protagonist, Chihiro Rokuhira, and his signature enchanted goldfish. The series is currently scheduled to premiere in April 2027.

The ‘Cypic’ Standard

In a move that has largely satisfied the manga’s discerning fanbase, production will be handled by Cypic (formerly Cygames Pictures), the studio recently lauded for its high-fidelity work on The Summer Hikaru Died.

The creative team boasts significant industry pedigree:

  • Director: Tetsuya Takeuchi, a veteran animator known for his work on Naruto and Sword Art Online.

  • Character Design: Keigo Sasaki, the stylist behind the iconic looks of Blue Exorcist and The Seven Deadly Sins.

  • Lead Voice Actor: Rising star Taihi Kimura, winner of the 2025 Seiyu Award for Best New Actor, has been cast as the stoic revenger Chihiro Rokuhira.

“I’m truly grateful for this opportunity to voice the protagonist of a series loved by fans all over the world,” Kimura said in an official statement. “Chihiro carries a conviction as unyielding as a sword. I’m going to pour my heart and soul into this role.”

A Global ‘World Tour’

Signalling massive confidence in the franchise's international appeal, Shueisha also announced an unprecedented Kagurabachi World Tour set to begin in Summer 2026. The tour will feature exclusive 20-minute preview screenings of the first episode at major anime conventions across the globe, culminating in a full-length premiere in Japan in early 2027.

The aggressive marketing strategy follows the manga’s meteoric rise; as of April 2026, Kagurabachi has surpassed 4 million copies in circulation, with its 11th volume scheduled for release this Friday 1st May.

From Meme to Mainstream

The journey of Kagurabachi is unlike any other in Weekly Shonen Jump history. Upon its debut in September 2023, the series became an overnight viral sensation, partly due to earnest fan excitement and partly due to "ironic" memes that ironically crowned it the "greatest manga of all time" before its release.

However, the "irony" quickly faded as Takeru Hokazono delivered a dark, cinematic revenge story that critics have described as "John Wick meets classic Japanese sorcery." The series has since become a staple of the magazine, frequently outperforming legacy titles on the Manga Plus digital platform.

The Road Ahead

While the 2027 release date may feel distant for "Bachbros" (the self-titled fan community), the manga currently has over 120 chapters of material, roughly enough for two full seasons of television. This ensures the anime can maintain a high production value without the need for controversial "filler" episodes.

With the "Neo-Japanese Sword Action" era officially underway, the industry is bracing for what many believe will be the next global blockbuster on the scale of Jujutsu Kaisen or Chainsaw Man.
