‘The Game Comes Home’: Jumanji: Open World Revealed as Final Installment at CinemaCon
LAS VEGAS — The board game has finally broken its boundaries. Sony Pictures closed out its star-studded CinemaCon 2026 presentation on Monday night by officially unveiling the title and first footage for the next chapter in the blockbuster franchise: Jumanji: Open World.
The film’s stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, took the stage at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to a rapturous reception, confirming that the "threequel" (the fourth film in the overall franchise) will serve as the grand finale to the modern trilogy.
Jumanji Invades the Real World
Following the teaser at the end of 2019’s The Next Level, the debut trailer confirms that the game's chaotic magic has finally escaped the console. The footage reportedly begins with a repairman (played by newcomer Lamorne Morris) discovering the dusty old video game system in a basement, inadvertently triggering a global "Open World" event.
Unlike previous entries where players were sucked into the jungle, Open World sees the jungle spill into a quaint New England town. The trailer showcased ostriches sprinting through suburban streets and supernatural storm clouds gathering over the real world, as the avatars themselves, Bravestone, Mouse, Shelly, and Ruby, manifest in reality in what the game calls “Demo Mode”.
“I’m beginning to suspect that we’re not in Jumanji,” Jack Black’s Professor Oberon quips in the footage, while Kevin Hart’s Mouse Finbar struggles to understand why his "strengths and weaknesses" are glitching in the real world.
A ‘Spanish’ Twist and Returning Icons
In one of the trailer’s most comedic highlights, the real-world teens (led by Alex Wolff’s Spencer) encounter Dr Smolder Bravestone sitting in a local restaurant. However, in a bizarre game glitch, Johnson’s character is sporting a thick Spanish accent and claims to have no memory of the group.
The film marks a massive reunion for the series, bringing back the entire "avatar" quartet alongside the real-world cast and several fan-favourites.

| Kevin Hart | Mouse Finbar | "Still working out the kinks." |
| Jack Black | Professor Shelly Oberon | Spotted riding a Segway in the trailer. |

| Danny DeVito | Eddie Gilpin | Spencer's grandfather returns. |
| Nick Jonas | Seaplane McDonough | Reprising his pilot role. |
A Heartfelt Tribute to Robin Williams
Perhaps the most emotional moment of the presentation came when Dwayne Johnson addressed the legacy of the late Robin Williams, who starred in the original 1995 classic. Johnson revealed that Open World contains a specific Easter egg in every single scene: one-half of the original dice used in the 1995 film.
“This one is for Robin,” Johnson told the CinemaCon crowd, visibly moved. “We wanted to honour the man who started it all. This film is a show of respect to that entire legacy as we bring our version of the story to its final close.”
The Final Level
Directed once again by Jake Kasdan, the film wrapped principal photography on 30th March 2026. Initially slated for an early December release, Sony has officially moved the film to Christmas Day (25th December 2026), setting up a titanic box office clash with Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday.
With the stakes now involving the literal collision of reality and the game, Jumanji: Open World promises a "wild, logic-defying" conclusion to the story of the four teenagers who just wanted to finish a detention.
