After a man was assaulted near a golf club, former footballer Joey Barton and a second suspect were charged.
On Sunday, Fairway, near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club in Merseyside, was at 21:00 GMT.
According to Merseyside Police, officers arrived on the scene and discovered a man with facial and rib fractures.
After being charged with section 18 wounding with intent, Barton, 43, of Widnes, and Gary O'Grady, 50, of Huyton, will appear in Wirral Magistrates Court later today.
The patient is in serious but stable hospitalisation.
Barton, Gervase de Wilde, the ex-England footballer, said his instructing solicitor had
received a call from a duty solicitor in a police station in Liverpool
shortly before the hearing, shortly before.
Barton
was arrested yesterday and is now being detained in detention,
Mr de Wilde told the court.
Barton played for Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Burnley, and Rangers.
After retiring from playing football in 2017, the midfielder then moved into leadership.
