Husband in court charged with drugging and raping ex-wife
Over a 13-year span, a former councillor has been convicted of a number of sexual assaults against his ex-wife. Philip Young, 49, has been charged with 56 charges, including multiple counts of rape and administering a drug with the intention of stupefying his ex spouse Joanne Young. Mr Young, a former resident of Swindon but now of Amberley Road in Enfield, has confirmed his name and address at Swindont Magistrates' Court. He did not enter a plea. Five other men have been charged with crimes against Ms Young, 48, who has renounced her legal right to anonymity.
Mr Young, a white British national, is accused of voyeurism, the display of indecent photographs of children, and the possession of extreme photographs among the 56 charges. He was remanded into detention earlier this year and is scheduled to appear in a pair of dark blue jeans and a black zip-up jumper at Swindon Crown Court on January 23.
Mr Young served as a Coventon borough councillor for Covington and Nythe between 2007 and 2010. The suspected crimes are believed to have occurred between 2010 and 2023.
