HE’LL BE BACK: TERMINATOR 2 SET FOR UK CINEMA RETURN TO MARK 35TH ANNIVERSARY
LONDON — James Cameron’s seminal sci-fi masterpiece, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, is heading back to the silver screen this autumn to celebrate its 35th anniversary.
UK and Irish film fans will have the opportunity to witness the definitive 1991 action blockbuster on the big screen from Friday 4th September 2026. Distributed by StudioCanal, the celebratory cinematic re-release will feature the acclaimed 4K restoration and RealD 3D conversion originally overseen by Cameron himself.
A Cinematic Revolution Relived
Originally released in the summer of 1991, Terminator 2 rewrote the rulebook for Hollywood event cinema. It famously reunited director James Cameron with action titan Arnold Schwarzenegger, subverting expectations by turning the terrifying cybernetic assassin from the 1984 original into an unlikely, leather-clad protector.
Featuring landmark performances from Linda Hamilton as the battle-hardened Sarah Connor, Edward Furlong as the young John Connor, and Robert Patrick as the terrifyingly fluid, shape-shifting T-1000, the film went on to achieve both critical acclaim and box-office dominance. It secured four Academy Awards, largely driven by its pioneering computer-generated imagery (CGI) that altered the trajectory of visual effects forever.
'A Message of Hope We All Could Use'
Reflecting on the enduring legacy of the film, writer-director James Cameron expressed his excitement about bringing the action classic back to its natural environment.
“T2 was made for theatres, and our lovingly prepared 3D version, coming back to the big screen, is the absolute best way to see the film,” Cameron said in an official statement.
The filmmaker also offered a cheeky nod to the film’s plot and today's modern landscape, adding:
“I believe it’s safe to do spoilers after 35 years, so SPOILER ALERT: the good guys win against the AI superintelligence! And maybe that’s a message of hope we all could use this summer.”
The Global Rollout
The UK release forms part of a massive coordinated international rollout by StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment, and Rialto Pictures, strategically timed around the fictional "Judgment Day" date of 29th August—the day Skynet originally gained consciousness in the franchise's lore.

| United States, Italy, Poland | Friday 28th August |

Anna Marsh, Chief Executive Officer of StudioCanal, praised the scale of the release, stating: "The continued restoration and discovery of classic and revolutionary cinema is the cornerstone of our strategy, and it’s particularly gratifying to see the scale of this celebratory re-release come to fruition."
UK film enthusiasts can expect screenings across major cinema chains and independent picture houses in 4K, RealD 3D, and premium large-screen formats. Tickets are expected to go on sale later this month.
