“I Said Yes!”: Halle Berry Officially Confirms Engagement to Van Hunt on ‘The Tonight Show’

NEW YORK — The "will-they-won't-they" saga of one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples has reached a definitive, diamond-clad conclusion. Academy Award winner Halle Berry has officially confirmed her engagement to Grammy-winning musician Van Hunt, putting an end to months of speculation and conflicting reports regarding their relationship status.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night, the 59-year-old actress was radiant as she set the record straight about her nearly six-year romance with Hunt.

Clearing the Confusion

The announcement comes just days after an interview with The Cut suggested Berry was still hesitant about walking down the aisle for a fourth time. However, Berry wasted no time telling Fallon that the rumours of her "rejecting" a proposal were vastly overblown.

“There’s some confusion going around that my guy Van Hunt asked to marry me and I said no,” Berry told a cheering audience. “That is not the case! I did not say no. We just don’t have a date yet. But of course I said yes I would marry him!”

To punctuate the reveal, Berry flashed a unique, massive gold engagement ring featuring a round center stone, jokingly telling Fallon, “He did put a little ring on it.”

A Love Years in the Making

The couple’s journey began during the 2020 pandemic, famously connecting over the phone for four months before ever meeting in person. Berry has frequently described the relationship as the "healthiest and happiest" of her life, credited largely to the intellectual and emotional foundation they built during those early months of texting and calls.

Despite the deep connection, the path to the altar hasn't been a sprint. In June 2025, Hunt jokingly told Today that his proposal was "still floating out there" waiting for an answer. Berry explained to Fallon that her hesitation wasn't about the man, but the institution, given her history of three previous marriages.

“I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” Berry previously told People. “I feel like we should... but it’s not because we feel like we have to. It’s an expression of our love.”

A Milestone Year

The engagement marks another high point in what is shaping up to be a banner year for Berry. The actress is currently in the midst of a heavy promotional tour for her high-octane crime thriller Crime 101, which hits theaters next week on 13th February.

In addition to her film work, Berry has become a prominent legislative voice, recently advocating in California for the Menopause Care Equity Act, a cause she mentioned has only made her bond with Hunt stronger as he supports her through her "second act" of life.

The Road to the Aisle

While the "Yes" is official, the date remains a mystery. Berry, who shares daughter Nahla (17) with Gabriel Aubry and son Maceo (12) with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, seems content to enjoy the "fiancée" title for now.

As Fallon noted during the broadcast, the size of the "little ring" suggests that whenever the wedding does happen, it will be a celebration worthy of one of cinema's most enduring icons.
