"French Icon" Jane Birkin dies aged 76

Jane Birkin was one of the most popular singers, actresses and fashion icons in France.

The French Ministry of Culture informed us about Birkin's death yesterday through Social Media. It was later mentioned that she was found dead in her apartment.

Jane Birkin became a fashion icon, she embodied everything that was prominent and exceptional in the industry. Throughout her entire career, she never lost her fans and she always knew what projects to take on and how to lead her career.

She was also well-known for her relationship with Serge Gainsbourg, an influential French singer. They had a daughter together: Charlotte Gainsbourg is currently one of the most important actresses of her generation.

Even Emmanuel Macron, the French president, paid tribute to Birkin. Macron stated that she “embodied freedom and sang the most beautiful words in our language."

France called her “petite Anglaise,” as she was born in London, but she later moved to France.

Her most famous role was probably the one in Michelangelo Antonioni's Close-up (1966), one of the most important mystery thrillers in the history of cinema.

Alex Kapranos, Franz Ferdinand's vocalist, wrote on his Twitter: "Very sad to hear about Jane Birkin dying. She was a true icon, but also charming sensitive and funny. To be able to perform and record with her was a total honour. I last saw her perform at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris a year ago and she was still as magical as ever."

Birkin was an icon and this is how her fans will remember her; she was exceptional and always alluring.
