Former ‘Love & Hip Hop’ Star Benzino Arrested in Georgia on Speeding and Drug Charges
GEORGIA — Record producer and reality television personality Benzino has been taken into police custody in Georgia following a high-speed traffic stop that quickly escalated into a series of drug possession charges.
The 60-year-old media executive, born Raymond Scott was pulled over by highway patrol officers in Crisp County after being clocked travelling significantly above the legal speed limit.
According to local law enforcement reports, the routine traffic intervention took a dramatic turn when officers discovered that the former Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta star was operating the vehicle without a valid driving licence. When pressed by the intercepting officer, Scott reportedly admitted that his driving privileges had been formally suspended due to ongoing, unresolved issues related to state child support payments.
The Roadside Vehicle Search
The situation rapidly worsened for the veteran hip-hop figure during a subsequent physical inspection of the stationary vehicle.
Officers conducting the roadside search reportedly discovered an illicit cache of narcotics inside the car's interior. The haul led to Scott being processed on multiple charges, including speeding, driving with a suspended licence, and felony possession of controlled substances.
The incident marks a turbulent return to the criminal justice system for the former co-owner of The Source magazine, who has spent the last decade navigating a series of highly publicised, turbulent encounters with Georgia law enforcement.
A Documented Legal History
This is far from Scott's first run-in with regional authorities regarding driving infractions and controlled substances.
Back in January 2019, the music producer narrowly avoided an extended prison sentence by pleading guilty to multiple felony drug charges in Cobb County, Georgia. That case stemmed from a 2017 police raid on his metro-Atlanta apartment, where tactical officers recovered home-made MDMA pills, THC oil, and cannabis edibles scattered across his kitchen counters. He ultimately escaped jail time in that instance, copping a plea deal that resulted in two years of formal probation and heavy financial fines.
Only five months after that plea deal, in June 2019, Scott was arrested in Brookhaven, Georgia, on a separate failure-to-appear warrant relating to an uninsured driving ticket. The roadside interaction, captured on police body-worn cameras, went viral after an agitated Scott launched into a profane, racially charged tirade against the arresting officers.

The Cultural Fallout
The music executive has remained a highly volatile, polarizing fixture within the online hip-hop community. In recent years, his public profile has been largely defined by a toxic, multi-year digital feud with his own daughter, the multi-platinum rapper Coi Leray, alongside a resurrected, decade-spanning lyrical war of words with Detroit rap icon Eminem.
Following his processing into the Crisp County detention facility, local authorities confirmed that Scott is currently being held pending a formal bond hearing.
Legal representatives for the reality star have yet to issue a public comment regarding the active driving and drug allegations. However, facing a fresh set of felony possession charges whilst navigating a prior history of identical offences, the veteran producer faces an uphill battle to keep his freedom intact.
