"I Have the Power": First Trailer for 'Masters of the Universe' Reboot Arrives After Two-Decade Wait

ETERNIA / CULVER CITY — The Power of Grayskull has finally returned to the big screen. After nearly 20 years of "development hell," director Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Amazon MGM Studios have officially unleashed the first trailer for the live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe.

The two-minute preview, which debuted globally this morning, offers fans their first look at Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) as a "beast-mode" Prince Adam and a first glimpse of a truly terrifying Jared Leto as the skull-faced sorcerer, Skeletor.

From Earth to Eternia

The trailer opens with an unexpected grounded twist: Prince Adam (reimagined as "Adam Glenn") is living a seemingly ordinary life on Earth, separated from his homeworld for 15 years. The footage shows Adam discovering the iconic Sword of Power, which acts as a "intergalactic bridge," whisking him back across the stars to a shattered Eternia.

“Perhaps, now more than ever, we need that kind of hero again,” a narrator intones over shots of Adam’s transformation into the muscled, blonde-locked warrior, He-Man.

A Star-Studded Rebellion

Director Travis Knight appears to have leaned heavily into a vibrant, high-fantasy aesthetic that pays homage to the 1980s Mattel toy line while utilizing modern, "spectacular" visual effects. The trailer highlights the film’s expansive supporting cast:

  • Idris Elba as the battle-hardened Duncan/Man-At-Arms.

  • Camila Mendes as the fierce captain of the guard, Teela.

  • Morena Baccarin as the ethereal Sorceress of Grayskull.

  • Kristen Wiig providing the voice for a high-tech reimagining of Roboto.

The teaser concludes with a haunting shot of Jared Leto's Skeletor seated upon a throne of bone, his skeletal visage brought to life with a mix of practical prosthetics and digital enhancement that has already sent shockwaves through the fan community.

The 20-Year Journey Home

The release of this trailer marks a significant victory for Mattel Films. A live-action He-Man movie has famously cycled through dozens of directors (including Jon M. Chu and the Nee Brothers) and actors (such as Noah Centineo) since the mid-2000s. It wasn't until Travis Knight signed on in 2024 that the project finally gained the momentum needed to reach the finish line.

The film serves as the first major live-action theatrical outing for the franchise since the 1987 cult classic starring Dolph Lundgren—though Lundgren himself has teased a "special cameo" in this new iteration.

Summer Blockbuster Status

Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon MGM have officially slated Masters of the Universe for a theatrical release on 5th June 2026. With a prime summer window, the film is expected to be a major box office contender, appealing to both nostalgic Gen X fans and a new generation of fantasy enthusiasts.

As the trailer fades to black with the familiar "I have the power!" roar, it seems the 20-year wait might have been worth every second.
