Faiza Shaheen Launches Campaign Against Iain Duncan Smith

Campaign to Unseat Iain Duncan Smith in Chingford and Woodford Green

Labour Party parliamentary candidate Faiza Shaheen has officially launched her campaign to challenge and unseat the current MP for Chingford and Woodford Green, Iain Duncan Smith, in the upcoming general election on 4 July.

Campaign Launch and Key Messages

Speaking at an event in Chingford on Thursday, Shaheen emphasized the urgent need for a change in government, criticizing the Conservative Party for their economic management and impact on public services. She stated that the Conservatives have “crashed the economy, created a £46bn hole in the public finances, seen the biggest tax-raising parliament in history and decimated the NHS.”

Shaheen pointed out that child poverty is at record levels. She stressed that NHS waiting lists are also at record highs.

Library Closures

More than 800 libraries have been closed across the country.

She added, "The Tories have normalised all this and it’s almost the biggest damage they have done. So many people now think that the inability to get a doctor’s appointment, the struggle to pay rent, not being able to afford food, are all how life should be, and that’s not okay.”

Iain Duncan Smith’s Campaign

In response, Iain Duncan Smith has been actively campaigning with the support of prominent Conservative figures. Former Home Secretary Priti Patel recently joined Duncan Smith on the campaign trail, expressing strong support for his candidacy.

Patel stated on social media, “Wonderful to be out in Woodford supporting my great friend and Conservative visionary Iain Duncan Smith alongside our Party Chairman Rich Holden. The residents of Chingford and Woodford Green have a strong voice in Parliament with Iain. His local track record of delivery and his ability to get stuff done is second to none. On the 4th July there is only one candidate trusted to deliver for Chingford and Woodford Green and that’s IDS.”
