NEW YORK — Hip-hop pioneer Deidra “DJ Spinderella” Roper has confirmed that she is back on good terms with former bandmates Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, clearing the way for a landmark stage reunion following years of bitter legal disputes and public acrimony.

Speaking ahead of the trio’s upcoming It’s Iconic Tour, the 56-year-old turntable icon revealed that the group had finally put past grievances behind them to present a united front once again.

The joint tour marks the first time Spinderella will share a stage with Salt-N-Pepa since her high-profile dismissal from the pioneering female hip-hop collective seven years ago.

‘It’s a Sisterhood’: Rebuilding Broken Bridges

Addressing the long-awaited reconciliation in an interview with People magazine, Roper was candid about the complex, decades-long dynamic between the three women:

"We're in a good space today. I said today," Roper remarked. "It's a sisterhood, and sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's not so good. They've been doing shows. I've been doing my own thing, but us coming together, this is a really big moment. So we're doing okay. We're doing good."

The reunion comes after an extended period of deep rift that began in January 2019, when Roper disclosed that she had been unexpectedly dropped from the group’s scheduled performances via a termination email.

The fallout swiftly spiralled into a protracted legal battle, with Spinderella filing a federal lawsuit against James and Denton alleging unpaid royalties, breach of contract, and fraud, a dispute that was eventually resolved through a confidential settlement.

Animosity deepened further in 2021 following the broadcast of Lifetime’s official Salt-N-Pepa biopic. Roper publicly condemned the production, accusing her former bandmates of intentionally excluding her from the development of a historical narrative she had helped build. At the time, Roper declared that her relationship with the duo was "over".

Five years on from that low point, the trio are preparing to hit the road together as co-headliners on the It’s Iconic Tour alongside fellow 1990s R&B legends TLC, with En Vogue featured as special guests.

Roper joined Salt-N-Pepa in 1987 as a 16-year-old high school student, rapidly establishing herself as a cornerstone of the group’s distinct sound and image during their rise to international stardom with multi-platinum anthems such as Push It, Shoop and Whatta Man.
