Shadow of the Sith: Disney+ Unveils Premiere Dates for ‘Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir’

BURBANK, CA — The dark side of the Force is reclaiming the small screen. Following months of cryptic teasers featuring the iconic double-bladed red lightsaber, Disney+ has officially released the full episode schedule for its upcoming live-action limited series, Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir.

The series, which marks the first time Ray Park has donned the horns for a leading role since 1999’s The Phantom Menace, is set to premiere on 4th May 2026—fittingly aligned with the global "Star Wars Day" celebrations.

The Siege of the Syndicate

Showrunner Dave Filoni confirmed that the eight-episode event will bridge the narrative gap between The Clone Wars and Maul’s eventual appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The plot follows Maul as he consolidates power within the Shadow Collective, battling both the Jedi and his former master, Darth Sidious.

“Maul is a character defined by loss and an unbreakable will to survive,” Filoni said during a press junket. “In Son of Dathomir, we see him at his most dangerous—no longer a student, but a kingmaker in the galactic underworld.”

The Premiere Calendar

Disney+ is sticking to its traditional Wednesday release window following the two-episode "May the 4th" premiere. Fans are already circling 10th June on their calendars, as the finale title, “The Night of 1,000 Tears,” suggests a direct tie-in to the Great Purge of Mandalore.

A Technical Masterclass

The series is reportedly the first to utilize the "Volume 3.0" technology at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), allowing for more seamless integration of the fiery, subterranean landscapes of Dathomir.

  • The Fight Choreography: Ray Park reportedly spent six months training with the 87eleven stunt team (John Wick) to evolve Maul's fighting style into something "more brutal and grounded."

  • The Voice: While Ray Park provides the physical performance, Sam Witwer, who voiced the character in Rebels and The Clone Wars, will once again provide the dialogue, maintaining the vocal continuity fans have praised for over a decade.

Surprise Returns and Dark Cameos

The trailer released alongside the dates offers a blink-and-you'll-miss-it look at a younger Qi’ra (portrayed by a returning Emilia Clarke), confirming the series will depict her early rise within Crimson Dawn. Perhaps most shocking to fans is a fleeting shot of a Zabrak warrior who looks remarkably like Savage Opress, leading to feverish theories about a potential "cloning" subplot or a flashback sequence.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Extraction 3 filling the summer movie slate, Son of Dathomir is positioned to be the "prestige" television event of the spring, proving that even after 27 years, the galaxy’s most resilient Sith remains a box-office, and streaming juggernaut.
