Heated Rivalry’ Breakout Connor Storrie in Talks to Play Villain Opposite Ryan Gosling in Marvel’s Ghost Rider
LOS ANGELES — Marvel Studios has reportedly zeroed in on its antagonist for the upcoming Ghost Rider reboot, with breakout television star Connor Storrie entering negotiations to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe feature opposite Ryan Gosling.
According to initial reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, the 26-year-old actor, who shot to global fame following his lead performance in the hit drama series Heated Rivalry, is in advanced talks to play the primary villain in the supernatural comic book blockbuster.
The project, which is scheduled for theatrical release on 28th July 2028, will be directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) from a screenplay penned by Jonathan Tropper (Star Wars: Starfighter).
A Breakout Star Joins the MCU
Storrie's rise follows his critically acclaimed turn as Russian ice hockey star Ilya Rozanov in Heated Rivalry, a role that catapulted him into the global spotlight and established him as one of the year's most sought-after young leading men.
While Marvel Studios has declined to issue official confirmation regarding the specific character details, trade insiders suggest Storrie is being eyed for a major supernatural adversary.
Speculation among comic book trade circles immediately points toward iconic demonic entities from the Ghost Rider lore, such as Blackheart or a revamped iteration of Mephisto, both of whom have historically clashed with motorcycle stunt performer Johnny Blaze.
"Landing a performer of Connor's intensity following his breakout television run gives Shawn Levy a formidable counterweight to Ryan Gosling," a studio casting insider noted. "The dynamic between their characters is being designed as an intense, high-stakes clash."
Gosling's Passion Project Takes Shape
The casting marks another milestone for the long-gestating superhero reboot.
Gosling’s casting as Johnny Blaze, the motorcycle stunt rider who bonds with a demonic Spirit of Vengeance, was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige during a surprise presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026. Gosling had publicly lobbied for the role for several years, describing the character as a personal passion project.
The film marks the character's first standalone feature under the Marvel Studios banner following the non-MCU Sony Pictures entries starring Nicolas Cage in 2007 and 2011.
To capture the atmospheric, occult aesthetic of the comic books, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Linus Sandgren (Dune: Part Three, La La Land) has reportedly signed on to shoot the picture on celluloid film.
Production Calendar
Principal photography is slated to commence on location in New York and on soundstages early next year.
With Storrie's casting negotiations nearing completion, Marvel Studios is expected to announce additional supporting cast members, including female leads and secondary ensemble roles, before the end of the final quarter.
