‘More Human Than Human’: Blade Runner 2099 Premieres First Full Trailer at NYCC Starring Michelle Yeoh

NEW YORK — Prime Video has officially unveiled the first full trailer for Blade Runner 2099 during a high-profile panel at New York Comic Con (NYCC), giving sci-fi enthusiasts a gripping look at Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh and Euphoria breakout Hunter Schafer in the neon-soaked cyberpunk revival (Trailer below).

The eight-episode limited series, scheduled to drop all episodes simultaneously on 25th November 2026, pushes the dystopian saga half a century past Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 sequel Blade Runner 2049 and 80 years beyond Ridley Scott’s seminal 1982 original.

Showrunner Silka Luisa (Shining Girls) and executive producer Ridley Scott introduced the footage on the Empire Stage at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, confirming a major paradigm shift: in the year 2099, Replicants have seized control, leaving surviving humans occupying a lower social tier in a transformed Los Angeles.

A Replicant Power Shift and Mysterious Cure

The atmospheric trailer introduces Yeoh as Olwen, an ageing Replicant Blade Runner nearing the end of her lifespan, whose performance is reportedly inspired by Rutger Hauer’s legendary character Roy Batty.

Olwen’s path collides with Cora (Hunter Schafer), a human fugitive skilled at shifting identities who poses as a Replicant to evade detection. Forced into an uneasy alliance, the pair embark on a high-stakes hunt to track down a runaway whose secrets could rewrite the future of artificial intelligence.

The trailer teasingly reveals that 28 Replicants have mysteriously vanished over the preceding year, pointing toward a shadowy figure who reportedly holds "the cure for all Replicants".

"Replicants used to fight for a few extra years of life," Luisa noted during the NYCC panel presentation. "Fifty years after 2049, they have achieved longevity and dominance, but that raises an even deeper philosophical question: do they want to be human, or do they want to become gods?"

A Binge-Release Strategy for Prime Video

Produced by Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios, the ambitious television expansion marks the franchise’s first live-action foray into episodic drama.

Filmed across extensive soundstages in Prague and Europe following initial delays during the 2023 Hollywood strikes, the series also stars Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, and Tom Burke in supporting roles.

By releasing all eight episodes at once on 25th November, Prime Video is positioning Blade Runner 2099 as its primary sci-fi flagship anchor for the global winter streaming window.

Extending a Legendary Legacy

With Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 entry having earned critical acclaim and two Academy Awards, anticipation surrounding the television expansion remains exceptionally high among sci-fi trade circles.

As promotional campaigns kick into high gear following NYCC, Amazon MGM Studios is preparing an extensive global marketing rollout ahead of the 25th November release.
