Zelda To Feature As Main Character In New Legend Of Zelda Game 'The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom'

Nintendo has surprised fans with the announcement of "The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom," a new game starring Princess Zelda as the main character. The new game is the first to focus on Zelda, a big move from the series' traditional focus on Link.

Revealed during the Nintendo Direct preview, the game features a top-down perspective and cartoon-style graphics similar to the 2019 remake of "Link's Awakening."

In "Echoes of Wisdom," players will guide Zelda as she searches for Link, who has been swallowed by a supernatural portal. Instead of the usual swordplay, Zelda wields a magic wand to summon items and monsters to solve puzzles and battle enemies.

The game is set to release on September 27, 2024, and is expected to be a major holiday hit.

The announcement also included a first look at the game's box art, featuring Zelda prominently in the centre, accompanied by a new fairy friend named Tri. The artwork shows Link in the background, hinting at his mysterious disappearance and the looming threat over Hyrule.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting a game where Zelda takes the lead, and this new instalment appears to be a full-fledged adventure rather than a side story or mini-game. The gameplay footage showcased during the Direct suggests a game well-suited for the handheld mode of the Switch, offering a nostalgic experience reminiscent of the Game Boy and DS eras.

Nintendo Direct shows new look at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

In addition to "Echoes of Wisdom," the Direct event also featured a new look at "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond." First announced in 2017, the sequel showed bounty hunter Samus Aran navigating an alien planet. Nintendo executive Shinya Takahashi noted that the game would release in 2025, asking fans to "wait a little longer."

Other highlights from the Direct included the RPG "Mario & Luigi: Brothership," various third-party titles, and updates on upcoming games like "Lego Horizon Adventures."

While Nintendo did not reveal details about its anticipated Switch successor, the company has assured that more information will be available before March 2025.
