Trump's ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Passes Through Congress

Trump's ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Passes Through Congress

Congress has officially passed Donald Trump’s massive tax and spending bill, handing the president a major win just in time for the Fourth of July. The House narrowly approved the bill 218-214 on Thursday, sending it to Trump for a signing ceremony on Independence Day. It’s the biggest legislative move of his second term - slashing healthcare and food aid, making 2017 tax cuts permanent, and pumping billions into border enforcement and military spending.

Despite sharp divisions within the GOP, party leaders managed to wrangle nearly every Republican behind the bill, with only two dissenting votes. Trump’s campaign-style pressure on holdouts worked, with some members admitting they caved for the promise of tax relief and stronger borders. One Republican put it plainly: “Only one man that can seal the deal.” Meanwhile, Democrats condemned the bill, warning it threatens healthcare for millions and serves wealthy donors at everyone else’s expense.

The Congressional Budget Office says the bill could balloon the deficit by $3.3 trillion and strip coverage from millions, an estimate the White House flatly denies. But Trump is unfazed, calling the package “a great bill for the country” and boasting it will “turn this country into a rocket ship.” As Republicans celebrated on the House floor chanting "USA!", Democrats vowed to make the cuts a central issue in next year’s elections.
