Trump Gets Royal Welcome in Windsor on State Visit

Donald Trump received a grand royal welcome on his second UK state visit, greeted by King Charles, Queen Camilla, and senior royals at Windsor Castle. The lavish ceremony included a carriage procession, a massive military guard of honour, and the exchange of symbolic gifts, including a replica of President Eisenhower’s sword and a commemorative leather-bound volume celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US declaration of independence. Trump called the visit an “honour,” and described the King as “such an elegant gentleman” and “a friend of mine for a long time.”

Behind the scenes, security has been dialed up to unprecedented levels, with Thames Valley Police coordinating what they call the biggest operation since the King’s coronation. Drones, boat patrols, and armed officers have been deployed, while the Long Walk near the castle has been barricaded from public view. Thousands of protesters are expected during the visit, though none are allowed near the events, which are all taking place behind closed doors.

While the pageantry was front and center, the visit also brought big business. A £31bn tech investment deal was announced, including major contributions from Microsoft and Alphabet, and a joint agreement on nuclear power is on the table. However, UK hopes of removing the 25% US steel tariff remain unresolved. Trump said he’s open to helping refine trade deals, but emphasized the main reason for the trip: to see “my friend” King Charles.
