Roblox CEO Addresses Safety Concerns: "If You're Not Comfortable, Don't Let Your Kids Use It"

Roblox CEO Addresses Safety Concerns:

Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki has addressed growing concerns about the safety of children on the platform, especially after reports of bullying, grooming, and exposure to inappropriate content. With millions of young users, Roblox has faced increasing scrutiny from parents and safety experts. Baszucki advised, “If you’re not comfortable, don’t let your kids be on Roblox,” stressing that parents should trust their own instincts when deciding whether or not to allow their children to use the platform. The company has recently introduced stricter guidelines and parental controls, including limiting chat features for users under 13 and enhancing content tagging for games.

Despite these efforts, some parents, like those on Mumsnet, have pointed out the challenges of fully monitoring their children’s online activity, especially with multiple kids and busy schedules. Baszucki acknowledged the issue but has reassured parents that Roblox continuously improves its safety measures. The company now uses advanced AI to monitor communications and has banned under-13s from direct messaging and certain types of games. “We watch for bullying, we watch for harassment, we filter all of those kinds of things,” he said.

Roblox, which has grown into one of the largest online platforms with more users than major console brands combined, is also focusing on its long-term vision of creating a metaverse-style environment. Baszucki sees Roblox as "the future of communication" and is committed to making the platform safer, while still allowing for creative freedom. He believes the company’s strict approach to moderation will ensure that users can have safe, enjoyable experiences online.
